Mountain getaway … Alila Jabal Akhdar
I was fortunate enough to venture into the mountains of Oman for a recent weekend getaway to the stunning Alila Jabal Akhdar resort, perched high in the Hajar Mountain ranges of Oman, close to the town of Nizwa.
This secluded getaway is a recent addition to the luxury hotel scene in this Gulf country, which boasts such illustrious resorts such as The Chedi and Six Senses Zighy Bay.
The almost seven hour drive from Dubai, including border checkpoints and the obligatory petrol and bathroom stops, means leaving early in the morning is a must if you want to arrive at a decent hour to relax by the poolside and enjoy the fabulous views in daylight.
The resort boasts a fabulous outdoors infinity pool, as well as a heated indoor pool which was handy for those nippy parts of the day and open into the evening. There’s also a well-equipped gym for those guests who fancy a workout, and a beautiful spa for those guests who just want to relax and unwind. Dining options at the Juniper restaurant are varied and absolutely delicious, with traditional Khaleeji dishes such as chicken matchboos as well as more traditional Arabic fare. The salads were made from some of the freshest ingredients I had ever tasted before which suited me perfectly as the salad devotee that I am 🙂
I highly recommend this beautiful resort for a getaway of at least two days – not only is the drive worth it, but you will not want to leave after experiencing the luxury and tranquility of this mountain oasis.
